Grades K– 8
We have two learning paths to support and challenge all of our students in math.
Students Ready for Advanced Math and Independent Learning
- These students have shown they’re ready to work more independently and at a more accelerated pace. They may move more quickly through the curriculum and possibly advance to higher grade-level content, with the goal of reaching Algebra I by 8th grade.
- Mondays: They will meet with the classroom teacher for a small-group lesson covering the new concept of the week.
- Tuesday–Friday: They will have the first fifteen minutes with the homeroom math teacher, and then they will work in another room with math support to complete workbook pages, work on collaborative projects or activities, and take assessments to check for understanding.
- They will also usei-Ready My Path, an online program that adapts to their individual needs and allows them to advance at their own pace.
Students Still Building Their Foundation
- These students benefit from more hands-on guidance and time to master new skills. They will work at a steady pace with a strong focus on mastering their current grade-level content.
- Mondays: They will participate in an introduction activity led by the math support staff to get familiar with the new concept or strengthen prerequisite skills to lead to success in learning the new concept or skill.
- Tuesday Friday: They will work through the same workbook pages more slowly, with extra time and support.
- They also use i-Ready My Path daily to strengthen their skills at a pace that works for them.
Note: These math groups are flexible and not permanent. Students may move between groups as needed, based on assessments and how they’re progressing with the pace and understanding of concepts.
